Transport Data Collection and Analysis

As part of model development, Halcrow MWT takes a hands-on approach to the collection, processing, validation and analysis of data.  These activities cover travel demand, costs and inventory data, using methods such as:

  • traveller intercept surveys
  • manual classified turning movement counts
  • automatic classified traffic counts collecting volumes, speeds, headways and events
  • travel time and delay surveys
  • bus dwell time surveys
  • queue surveys
  • parking surveys
  • pedestrian delay surveys

Specialised structured observations are conducted at critical locations in a network to identify appropriate model parameters to better represent behaviour (e.g., for the development and calibration of software enhancements to Paramics).

Given the high cost of data collection, Halcrow MWT undertakes specialized analysis processes in order to permit efficient data validation, analysis, incorporation into modelling environments and reporting.
